Cooking, Power, & Lighting

Cooking & Water

Due to our space being small we had limited options for a kitchen, so we decided to just have a propane stove, cooler, and water jugs. We plan later down the road to build a built in kitchen, but right now we are fine with what we have. We use our stove outside on a collapsible camping table. For our dry food we put it in a long plastic container that slides under our bed. For our cold items we use a cooler with a lot of ice. We currently have two water containers. The first one is a 5 gallon Igloo water cooler which is used for drinking water. The second one is a 6 gallon jug, which is used for cooking and cleaning.

Power

We plan to have a solar panel setup later on, but currently we have a Jackery 240 to power our necessities. The Jackery 240 is a portable charger that has a 240 watt battery. We charge the Jackery off of the 12v in the van. The Jackery charges our laptops, phones, and camera batteries.

Lighting

Since we don’t have a solar setup currently, we decided to buy solar powered string lights. The string lights are 24 feet with shatterproof bulbs. We knew we needed shatterproof because the lights would rock back and forth while driving so we didn’t want them to break. We mounted the solar panel for the lights to the rear passenger window. We chose this window cause there is no tint on the rear windows and so we can control them from the bed. We got hooks to screw into the walls of the van to hang our string lights. So far the string lights last a long time. If it is super cloudy and they don’t charge, you can charge them with USB easily.
